2014 Regional Conference Week on “Food losses and waste in Europe and Central Asia”, Bucharest
The twenty-ninth FAO European Regional Conference (ERC) and the thirty-eighth session of the European Commission on Agriculture (ECA) “Conference Week” will be held at the Romanian Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, Romania, from 29 March to 4 April 2014.
Given the high levels of hunger and malnutrition in multiple countries, public attention is on food losses and waste (FLW) now more than ever. From 2 to 4 April, Ministers of Agriculture and other delegates from FAO member nations from Europe and Central Asia will debate the issue at a special Ministerial Round Table . The purpose of the meeting will be to analyze the causes of FLW in Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia along specific food supply chains, while also addressing policy options that would mitigate the impact of FLW on food security in the region. During the rest of the week, the conference topics will include the state of food and agriculture in the soil, the International Year of Family Farming, priorities for FAO’s work in the region, the FAO network of country offices in the zone, and more.
